Abstract

English language learning problems caused by low interest of students towards learning the English language, learning activities of students’ writing tends to be low, the inability of the students in expressing and developing ideas, or ideas in written form, and the inability of students in the organization of meaningful writing. This condition is revealed from observations during the course of learning activities and practice writing skills revealed from the evaluation of student learning outcomes in making writing a simple essay. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the CTL approach in order to improve the ability of writing skill of narrative text. The research problem how to the ability students writing skill of narrative text with Chain Writing Method? Subjects research students in grade VIIA SMPN 7 Jember Year 2009/2010. Analyze data using the principle of complete learning (students complete their study said if the value reached KKM = 70), and the classical completeness by 85%. Results of the study can be summarized through the Chain Writing Method, write to the student’s interest to increase and eventually lead to achievement of learning outcomes is maximal in the ability to write. Achieving the learning outcomes of students in English language skills has increased from the previous (pre-action), from 30 students there were 19 students (63.33%) who achieved an average value with a value above 70 top 82 (both categories). Next there are 11 students (36.67%) with the lowest value of 70 (less category). implementation of the action learning cycle II that most students (86.67%) has reached the learning criterion of at least 85% completeness with the average value of ? 70 with an average value of 73.27 which previously only achieved completeness of student learning 33.33% with an average value of 67.56.
