Abstract

Efforts to develop student interest in primary education both at primary and junior high school until now has not received attention. Similarly, in SMP Negeri 2 Tanggul Jember student interest development activities have not been touched at all, and even less attention as if it was not touched at all. School focus or pay attention to aspects of intelligence or academic ability alone.  The problems to be solved in this study is, “Is the implementation of individual counseling services can increase student interest?” The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of individual counseling services in order to increase student interest. Classroom action research was conducted using two (2) cycles. Phase of each cycle includes planning, action, observation, reflection. Subject of this action research is a class VIII student of SMP Negeri 2 Tanggul Jember. Number of students were 38 children consisted of 18 men and 20 women. Student interest questionnaire results showed that administration of individual counseling services during the second cycle effectively to increase student interest. Proved compared with the first cycle to the second cycle value has increased very significantly. Similarly, compared with the target service, the results achieved were above the target service (percentage of value of interest questionnaire students who scored high enough at least 68.42% of the target service ? 60%). It can be concluded that efforts to increase student interest in class VIIIA SMP Negeri 2 Tanggul Jember, through individual counseling services can work well. Conclusion, individual counseling services effectively to increase student interest
